About the Role

In conjunction with the Student Services team, the Counselor will help develop and maintain a comprehensive student services and counseling program for profoundly gifted students. This includes one-on-one meetings, classroom discussions, community meetings, and student events designed to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students individually and in groups through regularly scheduled meetings (or as needed) to develop academic, personal, and social skills, goals, and plans.

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs (e.g., executive function strategies, study skills, self-advocacy with teachers).

  • Assist teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.

  • Support administrators and staff with relevant tasks for the benefit of students and the school community.

  • Create and present educational sessions in response to identified community needs, including classroom lessons, student programming, and professional development.

  • Ensure continuity and appropriateness of care by consulting with and referring to outside providers when issues require more in-depth support.

  • Collaborate with the Academic Support team within Student Services to meet the needs of students with identified learning differences.

  • Follow the ethical guidelines of the appropriate licensing entity when providing counseling services.

  • Provide referral options to parents/guardians upon request.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field.

  • Two to three years of counseling experience providing both prevention and intervention support.

  • Ability to support and guide parents, faculty, and staff in identifying and prioritizing the best interests of students.

  • Knowledge of barriers to student learning and the ability to implement counseling strategies to address those barriers.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a student-centered environment and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality as appropriate.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, software including office productivity tools, student information systems, and learning management systems.
