Position Summary: This position involves a long-term substitute teaching position for 6th-grade Reading and English Language Arts classes.

Specific Duties Include:

Instructing students in subject content, along with reading and grading student work
Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students
Serving as an adviser to a group of Lower School students
Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement common course syllabi and assessments
Ensure continuity of instruction and maintain a productive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher by following lesson plans and managing classroom activities.
Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

Have a working knowledge and experience teaching Lower School students (grades 4-6)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy
Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google apps, language lab software, and interactive whiteboard technology
A solid understanding of learning challenges, as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
Strong organizational and classroom management skills
Experience with proficiency-based instruction in an immersive environment preferred

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in Education from an accredited institution of higher learning; master’s degree in education preferred
2+ years of successful teaching preferred
Independent school experience preferred, but not required

The 6th Grade Reading/English Long-Term Substitute, Lower School position is a temporary position, paid at a daily rate.
