Position Summary: This position involves a long-term substitute teaching position for middle school social studies courses, including Medieval History, United States History, and Government/Economics for students in grades 7 and 8. This position will be available from August 4, 2025 through mid-October.
 
Specific Duties Include:
  • Instructing students in subject content along with reading and grading student written work
  • Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students needs including the implementation of differentiated teaching strategies
  • Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
  • Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
  • Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement pre-designed course syllabi and final exams
Required Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to Google Apps Suite, Microsoft Office, Interactive Whiteboard, in a 1:1 iPad environment.
  • A solid understanding of learning challenges as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
  • Strong organizational and classroom management skills
  • Ability to instruct students in writing research papers utilizing the Chicago style, or a demonstrated willingness to learn and implement it
Minimum Job Qualifications: 
  • Undergraduate degree in History or Education with an emphasis in history education from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • 3+ years of successful teaching middle school preferred
  • Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The Social Studies Long Term Substitute Teacher, Middle School position is paid at a daily rate. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Limited benefits are available.
