Job Description

Ashley Hall seeks a full-time Science teacher for grades 5-8: a full-time, 10-month position that will begin in August 2025. The candidate will teach Interdisciplinary Scientific Exploration in the 5th grade and Introduction to Physical and Chemical Science in the 8th grade.

Major Responsibilities

The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities: 

  • Teaching science in an inquiry-based, experiential, and process-focused approach.
  • Developing engaging lesson plans designed to foster intellectual curiosity and a love of learning. 
  • Designing and adapting curriculum to connect scientific concepts to local geography, environmental contexts, and real-world issues through interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Ensuring creativity and high quality of teaching and learning.            
  • Fostering a caring atmosphere and showing commitment to the well-being and social and academic progress of each student.     
  • Sharing responsibilities for curriculum development, and other departmental and divisional priorities, including trips (national and international).  
  • Collaborate with other faculty in grades 5-8 to facilitate the transition to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework.           

       

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in Science or in Education, with a major or concentration in a science preferred.            
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience working with middle grades students; specifically those in grades 5-8. 
  • Interest in and proficiency with developmentally-appropriate strategies for teaching middle school-aged children.
  • Curriculum development knowledge.              
  • Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.            
  • Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Ancillary duties and responsibilities as assigned.
