Upper School Learning Specialist
Carolina Day School is seeking a full-time Learning Specialist for students in grades 9-12 in our Upper School division. Candidates should be well-versed in Student-Centered Learning and diverse learning styles and profiles.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
Extensive experience working with students who have learning differences
Excellent written communication skills
Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Language certification and/or Certified Academic Language Practitioner credentialing
Multisensory Math credentialing
Proven experience in working with classroom teachers to meet student learning goals
Proven experience in navigating and creating accommodation plans, understanding protocols regarding these plans, the ability to parse out details from psychological educational evaluations, and the ability to educate staff members on all of the above
Proven experience communicating with parents and serving as a liaison between classroom teachers, parents, administrators, and students
Experience with and knowledge of available technology supports for students with learning differences
Seasoned teacher with at least 5+ years experience
Teaching experience in an independent school is preferred, but not required
Master’s degree preferred, but not required
Expectations:
Perform other expectations of Upper School teachers including serving as a student advisor, and attending required meetings
Develop a strong partnership with all Upper School faculty
Understand various learning styles and support students to understand their learning profiles
Guide Upper School faculty in various differentiation techniques
Engage in and lead professional development
