Education

The Principal is appointed by the Head of School and is directly responsible to the Head in carrying out the functions and policies as defined by the Head of School and the Board of Trustees. A Master’s Degree, ACSI certification and prior classroom teaching experience are required for this position. The Principal must be a sensitive and mature Christian individual who abides by our Statement of Faith and is able to communicate and relate well to both children and adults. This person should project a professional appearance at all times and have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability in the program. It is imperative that the principal is visible, approachable, and available to students, parents, and staff. Additionally, the Principal must thoroughly understand the three major components of a comprehensive Christian high school: Academic Excellence, Engaging Spiritual Development, and Outstanding Co-Curricular/Athletic activities.

 

Requirements

The responsibilities of this position include:

 

Curriculum Development

  • Supervise the planning/implementation of curricula, ensuring a college-prep curriculum that develops the whole person for the glory of God
  • Review lesson plans of all faculty
  • Assist in bridging curriculum across the grade levels
  • Approve materials/textbook selections
  • Research educational issues and topics
  • Investigate and approve all field trip and retreat possibilities as they coordinate with curriculum
  • Participates in the development of the master schedule for classes and teacher assignments

 

Faculty/Staff

  • Provide Christian guidance and leadership
  • Build a culture of trust and confidence among the faculty/staff members
  • Arrange for, and provide in-service workshops to offer professional development opportunities
  • Manage building-level finances, approve classroom purchases, and distribute funds as requested by faculty
  • Furnish faculty with available professional development opportunities as deemed of value, either collectively or individually
  • Assist and offer guidance on day-to-day issues as needed by faculty/staff
  • Provide evaluations of direct reports
  • Orient new faculty/staff
  • Observe classes on a regular basis
  • Lead faculty/staff meetings
  • Prepare calendars/weekly reminders of school activities
  • Interview potential staff members and make hiring recommendations

 

Students

  • Provide Christian guidance and leadership, preparing students to become servants, scholars, and disciples
  • Guide in areas of discipline, instruction, evaluation
  • Create a nurturing Christian environment for positive growth and development
  • Set high, yet attainable, expectations for student achievement
  • Ensure that safety and security policies for students are enforced
  • Attend school functions, and performances focused on the student 
  • Participate in the admission of prospective students, working to ensure mission-appropriate families/students are accepted
  • Retain records of student conferences, testing information, and progress reports
  • Oversee class placement and/or scheduling

 

Parents and Community

  • Communicate regularly with parents through verbal, written or Internet correspondence
  • Return phone calls and emails promptly
  • Provide opportunities for parents to meet with teachers/staff
  • Offer parenting workshops/seminars as deemed necessary
  • Meet with individual parents
  • Set up parent/student handbook to keep parents informed of policies
  • Develop and maintain the Christian partnership and mutual respect between school and home

 

General Administration

  • Prepare regular reports for the Board of Trustees
  • Attend all school meetings as requested
  • Represent the high school as part of the Executive Leadership Team
  • Inform the Head of School on all matters of the school, daily as needed or through bi-weekly administrative meetings
  • Meet regularly with and collaborate with other Principals and Leaders
  • Provide leadership and assistance in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment
  • Plan with the facility manager and business officers to maintain the building and grounds
  • Work closely with the Learning Center Coordinator

 

Professional Growth and Development

  • Attend and participate in professional conferences, lectures or other educational events
  • Attain membership in appropriate educational organizations
  • Keep current on educational issues through research and study
  • Grow in walk and relationship with God

 

Other Desired Qualifications

  • A record of success as a High School Principal or Assistant Principal 
  • Successful Head Coaching or Co-curricular Sponsor experience
  • A confident servant-leader whose style exemplifies Biblical principles of leadership and whose life exhibits appropriate Biblical balance
  • A confident servant-leader who Leads courageously, exhibits an Others first mentality, possesses a Victory mindset, and demonstrates Empathy and Excellence
