FPD is accepting applications for a full-time Lower School Classroom Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. The specific teaching assignment will be determined according to department needs.

First Presbyterian Day School (FPD) is a 3K-12th grade Christ centered, college preparatory independent school located in Macon, Georgia which exists to educate and equip children to change the world for God’s glory.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The expectation of the classroom teacher is to provide exemplary instruction through the following objectives.

Outstanding instruction, including:

  • Exhibiting a positive presence and affirming students and colleagues.
  • Preparing lesson and unit plans including appropriate objectives, activities, and assessments to support students’ growth and progress.
  • Maintaining and reviewing course curriculum maps to assure proper instructional priorities and pacing.
  • Effectively managing the classroom and implementing school expectations to maintain a positive classroom and school learning environment.
  • Effectively delivering instruction that facilitates active learning, utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and experiences, promotes higher order thinking and problem solving, promotes student collaboration, and challenges students to apply their learning in line with the FPD Core Values, Principles of Curriculum and Instruction, and Graduate Profile.
  • Maintaining academic and attendance records.
  • Effectively and proactively communicating with parents with empathy and a spirit of service and support.

Other Job Specifications:

  • Maintain an organized and learner-friendly Lower School classroom environment that promotes academic learning, creativity, critical thinking, and the interchange of student ideas.
  • Partners with colleagues to plan and execute meaningful learning experiences based on grade level goals and standards.
  • Presents lessons through a Biblical worldview using developmentally appropriate curriculum methods.
  • Collaborates with other LS teachers through participation in vertical planning, professional learning communities, etc.
  • Creates enriching educational opportunities for students through outreach to community and educational partners, including facilitating connections to grade level guest speakers and local field trips.
  • Collaborates with LS co-curricular teachers to develop meaningful cross-curricular connections and learning opportunities for students.
  • Plans and conducts daily lessons that promote active engagement for children and that foster the development of reading, mathematics, creative thinking, critical thinking, oral and written communication, and research skills.
  • Effectively manages student behavior and instructional time in order to maximize student learning and motivation.
  • Is a lifelong learner, joyfully, actively engaging with children in the instructional setting.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in the appropriate teaching field and teacher certification (state or ACSI) or the equivalent.
  • Growing Christian with a credible profession of faith and involvement in an evangelical church.
  • A growth mindset and commitment to lifetime learning.
  • Commitment to a lifestyle above reproach in line with FPD’s Statement of Christian Principles and Ministerial Role of Faculty.
  • Proficiency using technology in instruction and the ability to learn new technologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The majority of work will be performed in a classroom or school campus. The person in this role is regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and may be required to lift up to 20lbs.
