Role Duration: 6 months, part time
Position Summary
Part-time Visual Arts teacher for grades 7-12 to begin January 2025 through June 2025.

Major Responsibilities
The ideal candidate for this position must be able to
- Teach visual arts using an inquiry-based and project-based approach that emphasizes the studio habits of mind: observation, engagement and persistence, reflection, stretching and exploration, expression, development of craft, envisioning ideas, and understanding arts communities.
- Foster creativity and independent thinking in the classroom with particular emphasis on student-led project development and choice-based practices.
- Develop engaging lesson plans designed to foster global perspectives in art.
- Cultivate a caring classroom environment that supports the academic progress and socio-emotional development of each student.
- Share responsibilities for curriculum development as well as other departmental and divisional priorities.
- Collaborate with other faculty in grades 5-12 as needed to facilitate the transition to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework.
Key Requirements
- BA in Visual Arts and or art education, MA is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience working with middle and upper grades students, specifically those in grades 5-8 and 9-12.
- Experience with diverse art mediums and techniques, including painting, drawing, sculpture (2D and 3D practices), and digital media.
- An understanding of best practices in the teaching of visual arts.
- Familiarity with art-related software and digital tools; ability to integrate technology into lessons.
- Curriculum development knowledge; familiarity with principles of backwards design.
- Inter-cultural awareness with well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team on projects and events.
- Strong knowledge of and experience in teaching in the IB curriculum framework is preferred but not a requirement.
