In conjunction with the Student Services team, the counselor will work to develop and maintain a student services and counseling program for students through one-on-one meetings, classroom discussions, community meetings, and student events. This means help students to develop academic, social, emotional, and personal skills and understanding.

 

Responsibilities

•         Assists students, individually or in groups, through regularly scheduled meetings (or as needed) by developing academic and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.

•         Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs (i.e., executive function strategies, study skills, advocating needs with teachers).

•         Assists teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.

•         Assists administrators and other staff members with relevant tasks for the benefit of the students/school.

•         Create and present educational sessions in response to identified community needs for classes, student programming, and professional development.

•         Ensure continuity and appropriateness of care by consulting with and referring to outside providers and referring issues requiring more in-depth care.

•         Collaborate with the Academic Support team in Student Services to meet the needs of students with identified learning differences.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

●        Master’s Degree in school counseling, mental health counseling, or a related field.

●        Two to three years of counseling experience providing both prevention and intervention support.

●        Ability to support and guide parents, faculty, and staff in identifying and prioritizing the best interests of the students.

●        Knowledge of the barriers to student learning and ability to identify and implement counseling strategies to manage those barriers.

●        Capacity to foster a student-centered environment by developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff.

●        Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality as appropriate.

●        Strong verbal and written communication skills.

●        Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, various software, including but not limited to office productively, student information systems, and learning management systems.

 

 

Work Environment:

●        This job is performed inside, the noise level can be soft to loud. Work for this position will take place primarily in a classroom or an office on the school property. While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be required to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, walk, talk, read, and hear. The employee could be required to use hands to write, type, finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
