Ravenscroft is an independent, coeducational day school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 1,250 students in grades PreK-12.

Reports to: Chief Finance and Operations Officer

As a Director of Human Resources, here is what you get to do:

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the human resources department.
  • Plan, lead, and develop initiatives that support the school as a place of belonging for its faculty and staff.
  • Manage employee relations for the school by advising leaders on employee relations issues, leading investigations of employee complaints and work-related issues.
  • Consult with legal counsel on EEOC claims and other complex employment matters, as necessary.
  • Manage talent acquisition process, including partnering with division heads and managers to develop and execute recruitment plans that lead to a diverse workforce.
  • Recommend new and creative methods for retention and succession planning, including managing the mentoring program and onboarding and off-boarding processes.
  • Oversee and direct payroll procedures, ensure compliance with payroll laws and tax obligations, and maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Develop and communicate staff performance review process and approve final evaluations; ensure managers conduct goal setting and annual review meetings with their employees; advise on opportunities for employee development.
  • Oversee employee benefits programs, including managing benefit renewals to ensure competitive offerings, as well as managing vendor relationships of the School’s benefits and retirement plans.
  • Assist HR department staff with benefits administration escalations, including claims resolutions, status changes, benefits communications, and other benefits questions.
  • Develop and administer compensation administration plan; work with the CFOO in creating an annual increase budget.
  • Create, update and maintain job descriptions.
  • Conduct annual review and updates of the employee handbook and maintain the school’s policy manual.
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget.
  • Partner with Financial Advisor and CFOO to prepare for BOT Investment Committee meetings; represent school by attending quarterly meetings.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of employee records including personnel files, benefits files, criminal background checks and investigative files.
  • Attend conferences and training to maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and employment law on the local, state and federal level.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible human resources experience required.  
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite and Google Suite. 
  • Experience with Ultipro/UKG HRIS preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and handle competing priorities with flexibility.
  • Highly decisive and able to make decisions with ambiguity. 
  • Tact in dealing with people at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence about personnel matters.
